Shiel Sexton Intern Spotlight…

Sam Kennedy is a Senior at the University of Notre Dame, and he is majoring in Mechanical Engineering.

What projects will you be working on/are involved with this summer?

I will be helping the Commissioning Team at Anova on the INCOG project.

Have you worked at Shiel Sexton before?

Yes, this is my third year working at Anova.

What is your past internship experience (if any)?

I have worked with the Commissioning Team at Anova for the past two years. I worked on the Langham project and CJC project my first year. Last year, I spent most of my time working on the CJC project. I also worked on the intern project for the last two years.

What are you hoping to learn this summer with this internship?

I would like to get more experience working with the Commissioning Team. I was able to get some experience doing on-site functional testing last year at the CJC and I would like to learn more about how to do functional testing at the INCOG project. I would also like to continue learning about how different mechanical systems work and how to go about testing them.

How will this internship advance your career?/ Where would you like your career to go?

This internship allows me to see the real-world applications for the engineering concepts that I’ve learned in school. Therefore, this internship will help me learn how to apply my knowledge to the real world, which will help me in starting my career. This internship is a great fit for me because I think I would like to start full-time as a Commissioning Engineer.

What do you like about working at Shiel Sexton?

I enjoy working with all the employees at Shiel Sexton and Anova. Everyone has been welcoming and eager to help me if I have any questions. I also really like the intern program because it has allowed me to see what day-to-day life is like for a Commissioning Engineer.
