Shiel Sexton Carolinas finished off a busy week with celebrations honoring our employees and a spotlighted project.

ABC Carolinas:  Shiel Sexton participates annually in the ABC Carolinas Chapter Excellence in Construction Awards program.  This year, the Johnson & Wales University Food Sciences Lab renovation earned a 2019 Merit Award. Accepting the award on behalf of the team was Shiel Sexton’s Vice President of Operations Chuck Scholer, Superintendent Chris Tarwater, and Senior Project Manager Bill Cuddeback. Joining the team were Executive Director Mark Norman from Johnson & Wales University and Principal Dennis Robert from Array Architects.

The Food Sciences Lab project was an extensive 3,100 SF renovation converting former classrooms into new science labs complete with a culinary lab. This fast-tracked project was completed in just three months and executed flawlessly by the team.  The new lab spaces enable students to better study the nature of foods, principles of underlying food processing, and the improvement of foods for the consuming public.

“I want to convey my appreciation to all involved in helping this project come to reality. As I stand outside looking in through the windows of this new asset, I know that we have accomplished our goal of enhancing our ability to attract and retain students in the years to come.” Executive Director Mark Norman, Johnson & Wales University.

ATHENA International:  ATHENA International recognized two of Shiel Sexton’s very own at their annual ATHENA Leadership Awards ceremony in Charlotte. Business Development Manager Sara Downing (Young Professionals category) and Executive Assistant Sara Whitten (Corporate category) were honored as nominees. The award honors leaders demonstrating excellence in your profession, giving back to the community in meaningful ways and developing future women leaders.

Shiel Sexton is proud to cap off such an exciting week honoring our people and our work.
