February marked the beginning of construction on Watercrest Columbia Assisted Living and Memory Care Community in Columbia, SC. The 92,000 SF facility will consist of a three-story wing for assisted living and a single-story wing for memory care, all connected together by a large common area.

“This project will be extremely rewarding because it will help the seniors of Columbia receive vital health care in a warm environment focused on the residents’ satisfaction,” said Shiel Sexton Senior Project Manager John DeWalt. “The facility will incorporate the most luxurious amenities a senior living community can offer.”

The senior living home aims to provide ultimate comfort for residents with resort-style services. The facility’s signature water wall feature will welcome all guests to Watercrest. In encouragement of exploring the grounds, Watercrest Columbia will offer a myriad of outdoor amenities including a stunning promenade, a pool with a center seating bench, reflecting ponds, arbors and pergolas. A community fireplace and an interior play room for grandchildren will guarantee the residents’ guests will feel right at home. Residents are able to reserve one of the many community rooms, as well as family kitchens, to entertain larger private dinners. The main dining area will contain a full commercial kitchen, bistro bar with custom wine rack, and an exhibition kitchen. Each common area will feature an extensive array of custom artwork.

“During the design phase, the main concern was for the enjoyment and convenience of the residents,” said DeWalt. “The owner and architect anticipated their needs, and our job is to build a community that can alleviate all those needs in the confines of a single facility.”

In addition to homey comforts, Watercrest will feature a uniquely designed replication of an outdoor streetscape. The aptly named Market Street will include a salon and spa, bakery, barber shop, art gallery and post office to cater to every need of the residents. The Market Street area will contain an 18’ tall handcrafted steel art oak tree and a custom multi-level ceiling design, sure to impress even the toughest of critics.
