It has been two years since Shiel Sexton took the momentous step to become a 100% Employee Owned Company. To commemorate this anniversary, we hosted our second annual week-long celebration, Beyond the Build, from September 24 – September 28.

Beyond the Build helps us both to look back on how far we have come since we started the ESOP journey in 2012 and look forward to the opportunities that will come with the new year. This past week we focused on our commitment to our employees, our community, and our company.

Our Projects and Our Company – Members of the Shiel Sexton ESOP committee visited each of our offices and jobsites throughout the week with special treats for all employees and a video message from President/CEO, Mike Dilts. Our unique, challenging projects could not be delivered successfully without the expertise and commitment of each and every one of our employee owners. We recognize this and celebrate all of our employees! Beyond the Build banners were proudly displayed at each of our jobsites, and we hope you saw them up!

The Communities We Serve – Within our local communities, employees work together to improve areas that have been lost and forgotten.  In Indianapolis, employees worked with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful to transform an abandoned mobile home site into a community-centric greenspace complete with a wooden pavilion and new shrubbery and trees. Our Charlotte office partnered with Crisis Assistance Ministry to assemble Poverty Simulation Kits that are used to create an experience for key leaders in the Charlotte community to raise awareness about the impact of poverty.

Our Fellow Employee Owners – This past week also reminds us to take a step back and celebrate what makes Shiel Sexton truly extraordinary – our people! To cap the week off, we celebrated our employee-owners with an evening of socializing.  We will reflect on our accomplishments over the past year and recharge for the upcoming year.

Beyond the Build allows us to pause for one week to recognize the fortunate position we are in as an Employee Owned Company. We look forward to this new annual tradition of celebrating our co-ownership, our communities, and our company!  Enjoy the video recap of our company-wide jobsite celebrations!
