Every year, our company comes together to celebrate the year in review and to honor the winners of Shiel Sexton’s most prestigious awards. This year, five outstanding recipients received these awards. Other employees were recognized for receiving their Site Leadership and Certificate of Achievement awards.

Timothy J. Sexton Citizenship Award: Steve Jansen, General Superintendent

Steve celebrated 30 years with Shiel Sexton in 2019. His passion for the industry and the other organizations he is so heavily involved in are what truly make Steve an outstanding person. His overall commitment to his community through service, volunteerism and mentoring are what made him this year’s winner.

Rising Star Field Workforce: Brandon Kruger, Carpenter

Brandon started his career at Shiel Sexton in 2017. In his short time here, he has proven to be a top-notch carpenter. His carpentry skills and work ethic have made him a great asset to each project. He has embraced the Shiel Sexton culture of Expect More® by exhibiting performance above expectation, producing great work day-to-day while never complaining. Brandon was also a graduate in the 2019 Site Leadership class.

Rising Star Office/Management: Adam Metallic, Assistant Project Manager

Adam interned with Shiel Sexton in 2013. He continued to intern for three summers and was hired full-time as a Project Engineer. He sets a great example and serves as a leader to newly hired Project Engineers. Adam is the first to offer help acclimating new employees to the company. His great attitude, work ethic and personality make him liked and respected by all, including subcontractors and Owners. He consistently demonstrates a positive attitude and has contributed to the success of each project team.

Richard C. Shiel Award of Excellence Field Workforce: James Thornwell, Laborer

James joined the Southeast workforce division in 2016. Since joining, he has continuously made an impact on those he works with. He truly exemplifies our Expect More® culture by doing anything and everything to help out the project team. James continually wants to learn from the other carpenters, foremen, superintendents, and other trades working on the project. He always conducts himself in a professional manner.

Richard C. Shiel Award of Excellence Office/Management: Kevin Sheets

Kevin began his career with Shiel Sexton in 1997. His unwavering commitment to our Expect More® culture is demonstrated on each project. He is proactive on projects and always looks for the best way to overcome obstacles that arise while still maintaining schedule, budget, quality and safety. His commitment to Shiel Sexton and his experience in the industry are just a few of the reasons that make this employee an excellent asset to our company.
