This year, Shiel Sexton celebrated the fifth annual Beyond the Build. Every year, we use this week-long opportunity to come together and celebrate the three components of Shiel Sexton Beyond the Build – Company, Community and Co-Ownership.  We observe the event across all jobsites and offices in the Midwest and Southeast to celebrate our 100% ESOP ownership.

Indianapolis employees kicked off #BeyondtheBuild2021 by attending Tibbs Drive-In, where movies, snacks, and camaraderie were shared as the agenda for the week ahead was announced. Charlotte employees were treated to a night of games, food, and drinks at Topgolf.

The most important aspect of Beyond the Build is giving back to the community that we serve. This year, Indy employees gathered at Christian Park on the near eastside of Indianapolis to volunteer landscaping services that included spreading mulch, replacing damaged downspouts, painting tables, and more! Other Shiel Sexton employees worked hard on building flower planters, a toy rock climbing structure, a trash receptacle, and painted faded railings. Charlotte volunteers teamed up and conquered exterior landscaping, such as planting flowers and bushes, at the Hospitality House of Charlotte.

Throughout the week, each jobsite received cookie deliveries and Beyond the Build banners to display proudly on their projects. This has become an exciting tradition as our ESOP ownership is recognized across several states and commemorated by everyone.

Beyond the Build sets aside time each year to recognize the hard work each employee-owner contributes. It’s an opportunity to unify and celebrate the culture created as Shiel Sexton progresses and grows into the future.
