Earlier this week, Shiel Sexton partnered with the Indiana Red Cross and Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) to canvass Indianapolis neighborhoods as part of the Home Fire Campaign. Twenty volunteers from Shiel Sexton’s community involvement group, SSCares, participated in the event alongside Red Cross board members from across the state. Teams went door-to-door in “hot zones” identified by the IFD to educate people about fire safety, and to install and check smoke alarms as needed. The group installed 112 smoke detectors throughout the city in just 2 hours.

This was Shiel Sexton’s second time participating in the Home Fire Campaign, which really hits home for many employees after the tragic loss of the founder’s son and grandson to a house fire nearly two years ago. Working smoke alarms save lives, which is evidenced by a 75% reduction in house fire fatalities within the city since the last campaign took place in August 2015.

“Our mission with SSCares is to build a family culture through community involvement. The Home Fire Campaign is an incredibly important event and a great way for us to make a difference in our community.  Events like this allow us to be better neighbors, better citizens, and to continually build a better Indianapolis!” says SSCares chair, Nick Schellinger.

Shiel Sexton’s SSCares group looks forward to continuing their participation with this event and expanding its reach across the city.
