Shiel Sexton Intern Spotlight

Over the course of the next few months, we will be highlighting our summer interns! In these interviews, we asked them a couple of questions regarding their role within Shiel Sexton as well as their career aspirations moving forward! Our first Shiel Sexton Intern Spotlight is Cooper Walchle!

Cooper attends Ball State University where he will be a Senior in the upcoming academic year. He is majoring in Construction Management with a minor in Business Administration.

What projects will you be working on/are involved with this summer?

For this summer internship, I will be working on the Gainbridge Fieldhouse remodel.

Have you worked at Shiel Sexton before?

Yes, this is my second year working at Shiel Sexton.

What is your past internship experience (if any)?

I worked for Shiel Sexton’s concrete crew last summer.

What are you hoping to learn this summer with this internship?

With this internship, I’d really love to learn more essential background knowledge about the construction industry as well as build technical skills and soft skills through my day-to-day responsibilities. In addition, I would like to learn the functions and operations of Shiel Sexton’s Marketing team.

How will this internship advance your career?/ Where would you like your career to go?

I believe this internship will advance my career as it will give me exposure to construction jobs and tasks that I have never been exposed to before. Thus, this internship will allow me to build the foundation for my future career in the construction industry.

What do you like about working at Shiel Sexton?

I enjoy the people that I encounter while working at Shiel Sexton. I enjoy working here because it feels like being a part of a family rather than a team.
