Each year Shiel Sexton honors employees who deliver on the Expect More promise. The recognized employees are nominated by their peers and demonstrate great talent, leaving an indelible mark on the people they work with and the jobs they perform.

This year, Sara Whitten from the Charlotte office was honored with the 2017 Timothy J. Sexton Award for Outstanding Citizenship. The award honors a commitment to the community through community service, volunteerism and mentoring.

Sara has spent years working with the Charlotte community and raising funds for causes near to her heart. Some of her accomplishments include:

  • Successfully completing seven marathons, raising over $18,000 for the MS Society.
  • Dedicating her marathons to a young girl named Molly, who due to a neurological disorder, cannot run herself.
  • Graduating from the Athena Authentic Leadership program sponsored by CREW Charlotte. This year long program cultivates women in leadership from any industry to build skills in public speaking, career leadership advocacy for women and active engagement in giving back to the community.
  • Celebrating her 10th year of service at Shiel Sexton. In those 10 years, she has led and engaged the Charlotte team on numerous outreach activities such as: Charlotte’s Men Shelter Breakfast, Operation Christmas Child, Winter Coat Drive, Classroom Central Supply Drive to name a few.

Sara exemplifies Expect More and leads by example inside and outside of the office. We couldn’t be more proud for her to be a part of the Shiel Sexton family.
