As Bankers Life Fieldhouse undergoes its extensive renovation, Shiel Sexton is implementing our BIM workflows to assist with the complexities this massive job presents.

The team began with creating animated schedules using Timeliner in Navisworks Manage to show the owner where and when construction teams would be working in the building.

Another helpful tool is Navisworks Manage, which the Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) team uses to run through 3D trade coordination.  Bankers Life Fieldhouse is an existing building, which leaves many field conditions needing verification for coordination.  The SaaS (software as a service) product StructionSite assists with walking the building and the ability to cross-reference plans and models versus actual conditions of the building.  This also allows for a photographic history of the building to be available to the owner once the project is complete.  StructionSite is similar to a Google Earth view of a project that grants easy organization of still photos, 360° photos, and photo walks by locating them on the floor plan where the photos were taken. This technology enables offsite owners to receive real-time project updates and reduces the need for face-to-face contact if the owner prefers, which is especially useful with the current global pandemic.

In conjunction with StructionSite, our team leverages laser scans that provide a 3D point cloud that can be used with one of the many Autodesk products, including Navisworks, Revit, AutoCAD, ReCap and BIM360.  The laser scan is also available via the internet through the NavVis Indoor Viewer to allow for easier access to the scans.

Once everyone has a signed-off coordinated model, it is then pushed to the Procore BIM using the Models Module where the field can easily access the user-friendly U.I. (user interface) to navigate the model on their mobile device or web browser.  The use of the Procore Models Module enables employees in the field to quickly push construction issues using the model into Procore using the Observations and/or Coordination Issues tool.

These technical tools have proven to be invaluable in completing this complex renovation project, but it still comes down to the great people we have on-site and in the office getting it done.
