Shiel Sexton project manager, Mark Winters, completed his first Leadership Development Academy class, hosted by the Indiana Subcontractors Association (ISA). Winters was one of 19 applicants chosen to attend the course that consists of 15 classes.

According to the ISA, the 18-month program revolves around exchanging knowledge with senior leaders in the construction industry to help participants reach and exceed their personal career goals. Each class will focus on a key core concept of managing a construction business: leadership, risk management, human resources, finances, sales, or operations.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity to learn from leaders in the industry. The ISA has a great roster of instructors from all types of positions and experiences,” says Winters. The seminar instructors are members of the ISA, and have successfully performed in top management roles.

The first session included presentations by Brian Millis of ADVISA, Ken Hedlund and Howard Cox of Somerset CPAs, and Jeff Chinn and Rob Griffith of Gaylor Electric. Their presentations concentrated on Key Performance Indicators and behaviors in the workplace.

“This class will be a benefit to me and Shiel Sexton in the long run by providing further insight to all of the aspects of construction, not solely the operational side,” says Winters. The course will run until July of 2018.
