Construction Underway at Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience

Construction of the Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis kicked-off last month with an exciting groundbreaking ceremony. A variety of local celebrities made an appearance at the event including The Children’s Museum mascot, Rex, his friends Freddy Fever, Boomer, Blue, and Nitro, as well as some of the Colts and Pacers cheerleaders. The new outdoor health and fitness experience will offer a variety of family-friendly activities meant to engage children of all ages and promote an active lifestyle. The 7.5-acre Riley Children’s Sports Legends Experience will feature:
  • an Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever Basketball Experience
  • a Pete and Alice Dye-designed Golf Experience presented by Henry and Christine Camferdam
  • Wiese Field donated by Elizabeth Bracken Wiese and J. Frederic Wiese Jr
  • the Indianapolis Colts Football Experience
  • Jane and Steve Marmon Running Experience
  • Indy Fuel Hockey Experience
  • Cory SerVaas Family Fitness Path
  • Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s Pedal Car Racetrack
  • Pedal Car Drag Racing
  • USTA Family Tennis Experience
  • Soccer Experience
Old National Bank Sports Legends Avenue of Champions will feature some of the greatest athletes of all time and the Sports Legends Pavilion and Plaza presented by the Efroymson Family Fund will showcase temporary and seasonal exhibits featuring everything from health, fitness and sports activities to individual sports, athletes, and history of sports. The Children’s Museum Guild will tie it all together by presenting a Fantasy Tree House of Sports Climbing Experience that will creatively feature each of the sports represented in the complex. Shiel Sexton has enjoyed a long time partnership with The Children’s Museum over the years, having collaborated on such projects as the Chihuly Fireworks of Glass exhibit, a centerpiece for the museum, and the immersive Dinosphere: Now You’re in Their World® exhibit located on the museum’s lower level.
