The Coalition for Construction Safety (CCS) is a central Indiana non-profit organization that was created to improve construction safety. The CCS mission is to be “dedicated to the elimination of construction and facilities maintenance jobsite injuries and illnesses with the ultimate objective of returning construction and maintenance workers home to their families, friends, and communities free from harm.”
Annually, the CCS opens submissions to gift an array of awards for projects, crafts people, and safety excellence at a ceremony. The 26th anniversary celebration was held virtually this year with over 100 attendees via Zoom.
Shiel Sexton was awarded the Outstanding Project Safety award for the University of Notre Dame Baumer Hall project. Notre Dame partnered with Indiana Occupational Safety Health Administration (IOSHA) and Shiel Sexton entered the strategic partnership and assisted with the execution. The partnership elevated the overall safety and health performance of all contractors and subcontractors on the project and opened lines of communication between the subcontractors and IOSHA.
Project Executive Chris Metzger emphasized, “We had a great partnership with Notre Dame and IOSHA on this project. I’d like to acknowledge Notre Dame for their strong commitment for safety and to IOSHA for their leadership, support, and help with keeping this project safe.”
Last year, Shiel Sexton won the coveted Crystal Eagle award. As this year continues to keep moving forward, we strive to not only teach safety, but to demonstrate it through all facets of our work. This new Outstanding Project Safety award is a reminder that safety will continue to be top priority as we continuously strive to set an “Expect More®” standard to our partners, clients, and subcontractors.
Project Manager James Letsinger added in closing, “Thank you to the trades men and women who participated in the partnership. The overall safety culture onsite increase was a positive experience for all contractors involved.”
