And the celebration continues…

This year, on the week of September 26th-30th, we celebrated our sixth annual Beyond the Build. On September 30th, 2017, we celebrated our first anniversary of becoming 100% owned, and since then we have kept on celebrating! We use this week-long opportunity to come together and celebrate the three components of Shiel Sexton’s Beyond the Build which are Company, Community, and lastly Co-Ownership. We observe this event across all of our jobsites and offices in the Midwest and Southeast to celebrate our 100% ESOP ownership.

Our Indianapolis and Charlotte employees kicked off Beyond the Build by delivering cookies, hard hat stickers, and Beyond the Build Banners to our jobsites and offices. Displaying our Beyond the Build banners has become an exciting tradition as our ESOP ownership is recognized across several states and commemorated by everyone.

However, perhaps the most important aspect of Beyond the Build is giving back to the community that we serve. This year, our Indianapolis Day of Service was held at Far Eastside Orchard. For this project, we partnered with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful and this property was owned by CAFÉ (Community Advancement of the Far Eastside) community center. Throughout the day, our employees helped with tree/shrub/perennial plantings, installing split rail fencing, rebuilding a nature tunnel, mulching, as well as a few indoor tasks. In addition, our Charlotte team’s Day of Service was held at Crisis Assistance Ministry of Charlotte where they helped sort and organize donated clothing for underprivileged families.

We are excited to celebrate and set aside time each year for Beyond the Build as we are able to recognize the hard work each employee-owner contributes. It’s an opportunity to unify and celebrate our culture as Shiel Sexton progresses and grows in the future. We are counting down the days for next year’s Beyond the Build!
