Shiel Sexton Named One of 2012′s Best Places to Work in Indiana

On May 3, 2012, Shiel Sexton was ranked among the Top 10 Best Places to Work in Indiana by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. Company rankings were determined through employer reports and comprehensive employee surveys that our Indiana-based employees filled out in January. Shiel Sexton was ranked 10th in the Large Company category (250+ employees).

Shiel Sexton has once again been named a “Top 400 Contractor” by the national publication Engineering News Record. Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the company has once again been ranked within the top half of all listed contractors (No. 195).

Bean Center Wins 2012 Indianapolis Sustainability Award

Earlier this week Mayor Greg Ballard honored five local organizations and businesses for their efforts in advancing sustainability in the city. The Major General Emmett J. Bean Federal Center took home first prize within the energy category. The Bean Center’s Renewable Energy Rooftop Solar Array and Research Lab, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, converted the roof of the Major General Emmett J. Bean Federal Center into a proving ground for solar power technology. Shiel Sexton acted as construction manager as constructor on the General Services Administration project.

This prestigious award allows Indiana subcontractors to vote for an Indiana general contractor that excels in key areas, including: contract terms, ethics, field staff strength, payment history, project management, scheduling and safety.

Shiel Sexton Workers Rescue Lugar Tower Tenants from Fire

Shiel Sexton is currently at work on the second phase of renovations at the 15-story Richard G. Lugar Tower in downtown Indianapolis. Although the construction team is working diligently to minimize disruptions to the existing tenants, two particular disruptions resulted in lives being saved.

Jack Vannice Leaves His Mark

In a career that has spanned 52 years, Jack Vannice has left his mark across Indianapolis and the surrounding region. Jack’s experience began at age 16 with basic trades. He later served his country as a member of the Navy Construction Battalion and worked his first job as superintendent in 1970. Jack came to work for Shiel Sexton four years ago to manage concrete and site work for the Palladium at the Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel, Ind.

StructureMan Dedicated in Honor of Andy Shiel

StructureMan, the three-story Shiel Sexton mascot that graces the northeast corner of the company’s Capitol Avenue headquarters, has been dedicated in honor of former Shiel Sexton president/founder Andy Shiel. Andy passed away early this year.
