Shiel Sexton Team Spotlight with Matt Main
Matt Main, field operations manager, was one member of the Shiel Sexton team who volunteered his time to make numerous 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl projects possible.
We interviewed Matt about his role at SSC and his involvement with the Super Bowl:
SSC: What is your role at Shiel Sexton?
Matt: As field operations manager, I manage the company’s entire self-performance work force. We bid work for new projects and offer our employees as solutions. I also have the privilege of supporting our operations staff in many ways. Additionally, I teach safety classes and courses on scheduling. You could call me a jack of all trades.
SSC: How long have you been with SSC? How did you get to this position?
Matt: I have worked with SSC for four years now. Before that I owned a building materials company for 10 years, and worked in sales for another seven years before that. I knew Doug Condon (SSC safety director), who was looking to hire a new safety manager. I was looking to get out of the small business market, so it was perfect timing.
SSC: What have been some of your favorite projects to work on?
Matt: “Extreme Makeover, Home Edition” was an amazing experience to be a part of when it filmed here in Indianapolis back in 2009.

Recently SSC finished the Johnson County Armory Project in Franklin, IN. It was a tough project, but I love a good challenge. It demanded constant management and manpower and we overcame all obstacles to deliver a great project.
SSC: How did you become involved with the Super Bowl? What project are you working on?
Matt: Ian Prewitt (SSC project manager), told me about a project called “The Huddle.” When I learned more I realized we could handle the job through self-performance. The project demands included a low budget and tight schedule, and I was brought on to handle the operation.
Like I said, I enjoy a challenge. It’s really satisfying feeling after you deliver a project where you’ve felt like you were painted in a corner. Finding solutions for difficult projects is what I love to do.
“The Huddle” occupies the old Nordstrom retail space within Circle Centre Mall. It features family and recreational space, a beer garden, broadcast studios (WISH-TV and the Bob & Tom Show), United States Postal Service satellite store, a Lids retail store, a nightclub (Huddle After Hours), and private party space.
It’s a really cool project that offers something for everyone.
SSC: What have you learned from your Super Bowl experience?
Matt: I have worked all around the country. After seeing everyone work together on multiple Super Bowl projects here in Indianapolis, you really notice that the work ethic here is different in the Midwest. Everyone faced the same difficult task here—to deliver quality projects in a short amount of time.
The Indianapolis workforce really stepped up and made it all happen. To be a part of that is a real privilege. Hoosier hard work has been on display and I can’t wait for the world to see what we have done.
Thank you to Matt Main and all the workers who made the Super Bowl festivities possible. Learn more about “The Huddle” here.

Matt and his team have been a pleasure to work with. Can’t thank Shiel Sexton enough for their hard work and commitment to our project. Thanks for being a part of the team!
